Lessons & Leasing
***FOLLYFOOT HORSES ARE CURRENTLY FULL***
While Nicole has been coaching for 22 years, in 2023 she fulfilled a lifetime goal and became a certified saddle fitter (MSFC). Q Saddlery was born and has been keeping her very busy since!! Nicole still does some mobile coaching and while availability is limited, please don't hesitate to reach out😊
Depending on your ability and interest, there are a few horses at Follyfoot that are available for lease and lessons. Please refer to the Horses of Follyfoot page for details on specific horses. Safety approved riding helmets and shoes with a flat sole and low heel are mandatory. Horse Council is highly recommended for any person who is around horses and for a nominal annual cost it is well worth it. For anyone leasing a horse or planning on taking the horses off the property either for trail rides or shows, Horse Council is a must. Please refer to https://hcbc.ca/membership/membership-types/individual-family/ for more information.
All of the following rates include GST.

I currently travel to Metchosin, West and Central Saanich on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Cowichan Valley coaching within 20km is available Tuesdays and Fridays. Sooke would be available Wednesday or Saturdays if there is a minimum of two riders. I often travel up Island to Courtenay area for saddle fittings on Thursdays and could potentially fit in lessons along the way.
Follyfoot Horse Lessons
Follyfoot horse lessons are mostly private which allow riders to progress at their own pace. This is fabulous for riders who are returning to the sport and/or dealing with confidence issues. Private lessons also mean more individual attention with the result that riders progress more quickly. Semi private lessons are currently available Sunday afternoons or Monday through Thursdays after 4:00 with increased daytime flexibility during school holidays. Semi-private lessons can be great fun as riders get the benefit of camaraderie and learning by watching. If a third rider is a good match for an existing semi-private, a group lesson can be arranged. Semi-privates during the weekdays are also an option if there are two riders that would work well together.
Single drop in private 30 min lesson $80
Single drop-in private 45 min lesson $95
Monthly Lesson Rates:
Four (4) 30 min private or 1 hour semi-private lessons (one/week) $260
Four (4) 45 min private lessons per month (one/week) $320
LEASING
For those who are taking lessons here and are experienced enough, leasing a Follyfoot horse either for a "practice day" in the ring or for trail riding is also an option. Riders who wish to lease will need to have a very solid and safe position in all three gaits of walk/trot/canter and be comfortable and capable in handling a horse without supervision. This is to assure a rider’s safety and the comfort of the Follyfoot horses. Leasing is a month to month arrangement, not a pay/ride option and involves a rider paying a portion of the costs associated with owning a horse in exchange for riding it. This is an inclusive rate so you don't have to worry about paying a share of vet/farrier bills as they arise. Please keep in mind that the costs of horse ownership do not change if you are sick or it's raining! Rescheduling a lease ride will be done if at all possible but there is NO guarantee.
Four days (4) (one day/week) $200
Eight days (8) (two days/week) $350
Lease/Lesson Packages:
Four (4) 30 min private or 1 hour semi-private lessons and four (4) lease days $445
Four (4) 45 min private lessons and four (4) lease days $500
Please enquire about custom packages
*If your lease day happens to have a fifth day during a month that day is considered a bonus day at no extra charge. If your regular lesson day has a fifth day you have the option to pay for an extra lesson prorated according to your package, or hack by yourself for free.
Lesson and lease fees are due at the beginning of the month. One month's notice required to cease prepaid lesson or lease arrangements.
“Riding is a complicated joy. You learn something each time. It is never quite the same, and you never know it all.”
